How to return a gift to Home Depot
Our Return Policy

Shipping costs will not be paid by The Home Depot when returning an item due to general dissatisfaction or purchaser regret. If you wish to return for one of these reasons and received your package via UPS or FedEx, please follow these steps:
| 1. | Complete the return form located on the bottom of the original packing slip included in your order. | |
| 2. | Detach the form and place it into the box you are returning. | |
| 3. | Pack the item. | |
| 4. | Ship the package. You may use the included pre-paid label and have the shipping amount charged to your credit card OR ship the item(s) yourself using the “Return On Your Own” address located on the bottom of label. |
Note: Federal law prohibits items that use flammable liquids or gas from being returned through the mail.
If you would like to return the product for any other reason or you have any questions, please call our Customer Service Center at 1-800-430-3376 so that we can take care of the issue.
Holiday Décor: Holiday Décor items must be returned within 30 days of delivery. Any product damage and/or defects must be reported within 30 days of delivery.
Holiday Trees and Wreaths: Plants and live goods, including cut flowers, holiday trees, wreaths and garland are non-refundable. Please call 1-800-430-3376 within 3 days of delivery to report damaged or dead plants and/or live goods and we will promptly ship a replacement at no charge.
Refunds can only be issued to the original credit card used for the purchase. We can, however, issue your refund in the form of a The Home Depot Gift Card, if requested.
Shipping charges are non-refundable except in cases where the return is the result of a shipping error or the item arrives damaged or defective.
We will inspect all packages upon receipt at our warehouse. In the case of defective merchandise, if it is found to be in good working order the return code will be updated and shipping charges will be applied accordingly.
The prepaid label will indicate either UPS or FedEx, showing the logo of the carrier to use.
Packages can be dropped off at UPS locations including drop boxes, The UPS Store, Mail Boxes Etc. or can even be given directly to a UPS driver. For a listing of UPS locations in your area, please visit UPS.com.
Packages can be dropped off at FedEx locations including drop boxes, FedEx Kinko’s, FedEx Authorized Ship Centers or can even be given to a FedEx driver. For a listing of FedEx locations in your area, please visit FedEx.com.
Home Delivery shipments are typically for larger product orders that are scheduled through a special Home Delivery agent and delivered to your home. These are for items that cannot be shipped through small parcel carriers like UPS or FedEx.

| - | Most merchandise must be returned within 90 days in unused, like-new, 100% saleable condition and in the original manufacturer’s packaging. Live goods and items that use flammable liquids or gases cannot be returned to homedepot.com, if used. Please see list of details and exceptions below. |
| - | All damage and shortage claims should be made within 30 days of delivery. If damaged upon arrival, you have the right to refuse the order. Call The homedepot.com Customer Care Center at 1-800-430-3376 to report damages and obtain a return authorization number. |
| - | A copy of the packing slip or the customer receipt must accompany all returns. |
| - | A refund will be issued to the original credit card within 5-7 business days of receiving the returned item at our warehouse. Credit can be given in the form of a The Home Depot Gift Card upon request. Please call 1-800-430-3376 to request a credit via gift card. |
| - | Please use the manufacturer’s original packaging or a strong corrugated carton to ship your product back. |
| - | Complete the Return Form portion of your original packing slip or clearly note reason for return on the slip; include a copy inside the package; pack and tape your package securely. |
| - | Write your purchase order number (found on your packing slip in the lower left-hand corner under PO#) on the provided prepaid label in the space provided. Affix the label to the outside of the package. Remove original shipping label whenever possible as this will help expedite your credit. |
| - | We use both UPS and FedEx prepaid labels. Drop off your package at the appropriate carrier location, drop box or give to the appropriate carrier driver – OR – you may chose to ship the package yourself by using the “Return On Your Own” label located at the bottom of the ARS label. |

Return Policy Exceptions
- Damaged Items and Shortage Claims Any damaged or missing items must be reported within 30 days of delivery by calling 1-800-430-3376.
- Returning Products Containing Hazardous Materials Due to safety hazards, items that use flammable liquids or gases cannot be returned through the mail, even if the item was drained of these materials. This would include items like lawn mowers, leaf blowers and any other items that use flammable liquids or gases. Please call 1-800-430-3376 for instructions for returns of products containing hazardous materials.
Product Exceptions

- Air Conditioners & Generators Returns must be sent back within 30 days of delivery. Any product damage or defects must be reported within 30 days of delivery. Whole house generators or stationary generators are non-returnable and non-refundable.
- Gift Cards The Home Depot Gift Cards are not returnable and cannot be redeemed or exchanged for cash (unless required by law), check, credit, or payment on any credit or loan account nor Tool Rental deposits.
- Electronics Electronics, such as TVs, VCRs, DVDs DVD players, gaming systems and computers must be returned within 30 days of delivery. Any product damage or defects must be reported within 30 days of delivery. Large TVs that are delivered via Home Delivery carriers cannot be returned without original manufacturers packaging. Freight damages must be reported at the time of delivery and the TV should be refused if you see any signs of damage. If you fail to report damage at the time of delivery you may forfeit your right to file a freight damage claim after the delivery agents have left.
- Furniture Furniture must be returned within 30 days of delivery. Any product damage or defects must be reported within 30 days of delivery. Mattresses cannot be returned once opened.
- Major Appliances Any Major Appliance product damage must be reported within 48 hours of delivery by calling 1-800-455-3869. After 48 hours, any product issues must be handled through your local The Home Depot store Special Services Desk. Be sure to bring a copy of your sales receipt with you.
- Plants & Live Goods Plants and live goods, including cut flowers, holiday trees, wreaths and garland are non-refundable. Please call 1-800-430-3376 within 3 days of delivery to report damaged or dead plants and/or live goods and we will promptly ship a replacement at no charge.
- Tractors John Deere tractors will be repaired under manufacturer’s warranty, please contact The Home Depot Customer Care Center at 1-800-435-4654 for further information. All other lawn tractors and mowers will be repaired through a service contractor at a local Home Depot. Please contact a manager at your local store for more information.
- Wallpaper Samples Wallpaper samples are not returnable. If you feel you have received an incorrect sample however, please call 1-800-430-3376 for a replacement.
